Black and White with a Touch of Color

I started out with a cap from Home of the Nutty, resized, and cropped it.
Duplicate your base four times. Set the bottom one to screen 100% opacity.
Set the next one to screen 100% opacity. (If your image is too bright, then skip this step)
Set the next one to soft light 100% opacity, and apply the high pass filter with a radius of 10.
Set the third to soft light 100% opacity. Add a layer mask to the regular soft light layer. Copy the base, and paste it into the mask. (For Photoshop users, go here for more details on how to do the layer mask. For PSP users, go here.)
Add a channel mixer layer, and input these settings: red input channel: red: 130, green: -15, blue: -15; green output channel: red: -15, green: 130, blue: -15; blue output channel: red: -15, green: -15, blue: 130. Copy your base, and paste it into the layer mask.
Add a layer of ffffff, and set it to soft light 100% opacity.
Add a new layer of 000d2f, and set it to soft light 25% opacity.
Duplicate the previous layer, and set it to soft light 100% opacity. Add a layer mask, and paste the base into the layer.
Add a hue-saturation layer, and input these settings: yellow saturation: -30.
Add a new layer of 404040, and set it to lighten 100% opacity.
Make a new layer. Take a fuzzy brush and paint over Peter's tunic and his armband with ff0000. Then gaussian blur it with a radius of 12.00. Set the layer to screen 50% opacity.
Add another hue-saturation layer, and input these settings: master saturation: -100. Take a fuzzy brush and on the layer mask, paint over the Peter's armor, chain mail, tunic, and arm-band with 000000. Now everything except Peter's outfit should be black and white! Voila!
