For this icon, I used 4 different images of the Pevensies from the NW image gallery. First, we'll start with Lucy. I resized the image and cropped it about 100x25.

Duplicate the base of Lucy, and set it to soft light 100% opacity. Then apply the high pass filter with a radius of 10.

Add a channel mixer layer with these settings: red input channel: red: 130, green: -15, blue: -15; green output channel: red: -15, green: 130, blue: -15; blue output channel: red: -15, green: -15, blue: 130. This brings out some of the colors.

Add a color balance layer with these settings: midtones: cyan: -64, magenta: 10, yellow: 45; shadows: cyan: 4, magenta: 20, yellow: 100; highlights: cyan: -58, magenta: -10, yellow: 36. Leave the preserve luminance box unchecked. Now the image has cooler tones and is not over red. Lucy's coloring is done. Flatten image.

Next, resize the image of Edmund and again crop it about 100x25. (For the tutorial, I'll leave Lucy in the icon, but you might want to hide Lucy while you're working on Edmund so that his coloring doesn't effect Lucy.)

Duplicate the base of Edmund, and set it to soft light 100% opacity. Then apply the high pass filter with a radius of 10.

Add a channel mixer layer with these settings: red input channel: red: 130, green: -15, blue: -15; green output channel: red: -15, green: 130, blue: -15; blue output channel: red: -15, green: -15, blue: 130.

Add a color balance layer with these settings: midtones: cyan: -50, magenta: 48, yellow: 100; shadows: cyan: 50, magenta: -12, yellow: 100; highlights: cyan: -100, magenta: -14, yellow: 12. Leave the preserve luminance box unchecked. Merge visible layers.

Next, resize the image of Susan and again crop it about 100x25. (Now hide both Lucy and Edmund.)

Duplicated the base of Susan, and set it to soft light 100% opacity. Then apply the high pass filter with a radius of 10.

Add a layer of 2a1409, and set it to difference 100% opacity.

Now add a channel mixer layer with these settings: red input channel: red: 120, green: -40, blue: 10; green input channel: red: -10, green: 50; blue: 70; blue input channel: red: -40, green: 50, blue: 100. Copy the base of Susan, and ctrl+shift+L to paste the base into the channel mixer layer. Set this layer to soft light 50% opacity.

Duplicate the channel mixer layer, and set it to screen 100% opacity.

Add a new layer of ffffff, and set it to soft light 100% opacity. Right click the layer and go to new mask layer>from image. Make sure you select the file you are working on, and make sure the invert box is checked. (For those who use Photoshop, refer to this tutorial to make this type of masked layer. Be sure to invert the mask!)

Add a layer of 2a1409, and set it to screen 100% opacity.

Duplicate the previous layer and set it to soft light 100% opacity.

Add a color balance layer with these settings: midtones: cyan: -100, magenta: -36, yellow: -24; shadows: cyan: -32, magenta: -10, yellow: 100; highlights: cyan: 17, magenta: -6, yellow: 24. Leave the preserve luminance box unchecked. Merge visible layers.

Next, resize the image of Peter and crop it to about 100x25. (Make sure that Susan, Lucy, and Edmund are all hidden)

Duplicate the base of Peter, and set it to soft light 100% opacity. Then apply the high pass filter with a radius of 10.

Add a channel mixer layer with these settings: red input channel: red: 130, green: -15, blue: -15; green output channel: red: -15, green: 130, blue: -15; blue output channel: red: -15, green: -15, blue: 130.

Add a color balance layer with these settings: midtones: cyan: -100, magenta: -32, yellow: 48; shadows: cyan: -70, magenta: 24, yellow: 28; highlights: cyan: -56, magenta: -28, yellow: 24. The preserve luminance box should be checked. Merge visible layers.

Make Susan, Lucy, and Edmund all visible, and add this texture.

Now lastly, add a new layer of 404040, and set it to lighten 50% opacity! Voila!

Feel free to ask any questions!
