Tutorial #18
Jul. 25th, 2009 11:38 amTutorial #18
I meant to get this up sooner, but I kept losing my work because either my computer wouldn't come back from hibernate or Photoshop would keep crashing. I finally got the info down, but sorry there are no images. If I get a chance, I will try again to put the images up. No guarantees, though.

Open up your base. I used a base from Spareoom.net.
Go to Image>Adjustments>Levels. Click on auto. (In GIMP, you can either do auto levels or white balance).
Next, smooth Lucy's skin by blurring it. You can also sharpen her eyes and lips.
For this particular icon, I didn't want the centaurs in the background. I painted over the centaurs with ffffff.
Make a curves layer. RGB: 1st point--output: 229, input: 106 and 2nd point--output: 183, input: 176. (In GIMP, duplicate the base layer, but use the curves setting on the base, not the duplicated layer) You may have to fiddle with the settings. I couldn’t quite get it exactly like the original icon.
Duplicate the base layer and set it to soft light 100% opacity. Bring it to the top Go to Filter>Other>High Pass. If you go to my previous tutorial (here), you can download the high pass filter for GIMP.
Make a new layer of 170920 and set it to exclusion 60% opacity. (This would equal two screen layers plus one subtract layer in GIMP. All three layers should be set to 60%.)
Make a new layer of f0e7ee and set it to color burn 100% opacity. (In GIMP, merge all layers before the next step.)
Go to Channel mixer, and input these settings: red output channel, red: 110, green: -10, blue: -10. For the green output channel, red: -5, green: 105, blue: 5. For the blue output channel, red: 10, green -5, blue: 110.
Voila! There you go! If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help!
