Narnian Sonnet
May. 12th, 2009 10:51 amLast week I entered this sonnet in NW sonnet-writing contest. Alas, I did not win. :( But I thought I'd share it with everyone anyway. :D It's about Reepicheep and the song that the dryads sang.
"Song of the Utter East"
The song that dryads sang to me back then
Is rooted deep within my heart and soul.
‘Tis not a song of yore that man can pen;
But when it cometh true, may I be whole.
They sang this fate before the morning dew:
“Oh, do not doubt, thou noble mouse, thy call.
The Utter East has now thy heart so true;
Thou must sail on, though fear shall make a wall.”
So now I go embark on this great quest,
Though dragon come and storm destroy my sail,
Press on I must without sufficient rest;
The song must be enough that I prevail.
Until I reach the end, to Aslan’s shore,
This song will haunt my dreams forevermore.
It was very challenging to write a sonnet because you have to keep the meter just right. I prefer songwriting much better, but it was nice to be challenged. Hope you enjoy it. :D
