Okay, here's another tutorial from me! Have fun with it!

Tutorial #2

Button Icon

This is a GIMP tutorial that could be used in Photoshop, etc.

Going from this: to this:

A tutorial requested by Narnia Fanatic.

First, open two new files. One that's 100x100 and another that's 94x94.

We'll be working with the 94x94. Open your image as a new layer. For this tutorial, we'll be using a screencap from Spareoom.net. Scale the image to fit the layer and position as you wish.

Now you want to cut out the image into a circle. Use the ellipse select tool and stretch the circle over the image. For this tutorial, you want the circle to be 92x92. Move the circle so that it doesn't touch any of the edges. Then cut the image. Delete the leftover corners. Then paste the circle back in and make it a new layer.

Now you can work on the coloring. I usually start with the Hue/Saturation. First increase the master saturation to 100. Then increase each color's saturation to 100.

Now duplicate the layer and set it too screen 100%.

Add another layer and fill it with ffddcc. Set it to soft light 40%.

Add another layer and fill it with cce6ff. Set it to burn 100%.

If you have a background layer, make sure it is not visible. Then merge the visible layers, clipped to the bottom layer.

Then go to filters > decor > add bevel. Choose 6 for the thickness. Make sure that the "work on copy" and "keep bump layer" boxes are not checked.

Now go to filters > artistic > softglow. The glow radius is 10. The brightness is .10 , and the sharpness is .10 also.

Take your icon-button and paste it into your 100x100 image. Move the circle up and to the left, but not too close to the edge or the circle will be squared off. Then click filters > lights and shadows > drop shadow. Offset x is 0 and offset y is 0. The blur radius is 15. I usually make the opacity 100, but you can change it if you want. Do not allow for resizing because it make your image bigger than 100x100. You might want to move the drop shadow so that it is not squared off.

And now you have a button icon.
